As students went back to school this fall, 38 children of Avery Dennison employees started their college school year with extra cash for books, tuition and supplies.
America Goche, a student in Mexico and recipient of a Global Children of Employees Scholarship said, "I am very excited! Avery Dennison's efforts and dedication help the employees' children continue our studies each day. Every little bit helps with our education!"
The Avery Dennison Foundation concentrates on giving across three pillars: education access, environmental sustainability and secure livelihoods. These three areas of focus help the Foundation achieve its vision for diverse, equitable and sustainable communities around the world that help people thrive.
In support of its education pillar, the Avery Dennison Foundation provides scholarships for children of employees through two key programs: the U.S. Scholars program and the Global Children of Employees Scholarship program. These programs recognize academic excellence by awarding scholarships to students pursuing higher education in colleges, universities, and accredited vocational programs. The goal of these scholarships is to encourage children to attend higher education with the hopes that the students will be inspired to pursue their passions.
The U.S. Scholars program started in 1977 and has provided college scholarships to over 600 children of U.S. employees. The program awarded $42,000 to 21 students attending colleges or universities in eight states this year.
In 2022, the Global Children of Employees Scholarship was created in reflection of the company's global employees, providing higher education opportunities by providing scholarships to children in Mexico and Vietnam. This year, the program expanded to include Bangladesh, Honduras, India, and Sri Lanka, awarding $34,000 to 17 students across the six countries.
"The Avery Dennison Foundation wants to ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed. Enabling the next generation is crucial to achieving our vision for a more diverse, equitable and sustainable global community where people and the planet thrive," said Alicia Procello, president, Avery Dennison Foundation, and vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility.
The application and selection processes are administered for Avery Dennison by third-party organizations, Scholarship America and Institute of International Education, which specialize in designing and executing scholarship programs.
Congratulations to the 2023 scholarship recipients and their proud parents!
